Within 5 working days of our visit, you’ll receive a no-obligation written quotation. If you decide to move forward, we’ll confirm every detail with you — from timescales to materials — ensuring complete clarity from the very start.

As your project progresses, we’ll hold regular reviews to keep you updated and make sure you’re happy with the results. We know plans can change along the way, and we’re flexible — any adjustments will be discussed, costed, and agreed with you before we proceed.

Throughout the process, we promise to be as tidy and unobtrusive as possible. Once the work is complete, we’ll leave your outdoor space spotless, removing all waste and materials.

We only sign off when you are 100% satisfied with the finished result.

Each member of the team brings unique skills, experience, and personality to the business — from skilled craftsmanship and careful project management to creative marketing and dedicated support. Together, we share the same commitment: to deliver outdoor spaces that are crafted with care, quality, and attention to detail.

And of course, no introduction would be complete without mentioning Henry — our much-loved Supervisor in spirit, whose legacy of “quality control” still makes us smile.

Meet David

David is the owner and driving force behind the business, bringing both expertise and passion to every project. With a long career in landscaping and dry stone walling, he has worked on prestigious sites such as Fountains Abbey and also dedicated his skills to volunteer work in the North Yorkshire Dales.

As the founder of this family-run business, David takes pride in combining traditional craftsmanship with personal service. His precision and care ensure every project is not only built to last but also a joy to experience.

Meet Ian

Ian is one of our trusted sub-contractors, bringing reliability and dedication to every project. After retiring from a long career in the police, he embraced a new challenge in landscaping and dry stone walling, where he has quickly developed a strong skill set.

He enjoys the variety of the work and the satisfaction of creating something lasting and meaningful. Outside of the business, Ian also lends his time to Carlton Lodge Activity Centre, supporting the local community.

Meet Christine

Christine is co-owner of the business and our Director of Administration, making sure everything runs smoothly behind the scenes. From preparing clear, competitive estimates and invoices to sourcing the highest-quality materials at the best possible price, she ensures every project is managed with transparency and efficiency.

As part of the family team, Christine values the personal connections we build with clients, ensuring they feel supported at every stage. Her dedication means every detail is handled with fairness, organisation, and care.

Meet Henry

Every business needs a supervisor — and for us, that was Henry. Just as 10 Downing Street has Larry the Chief Mouser, Northern Walls had Henry, our very own Supervisor and Head of Quality Control.

Henry took his job very seriously, overseeing projects with a watchful eye (and often from a sunny spot). Sadly, he passed away in August 2024, but he’ll always be part of our story — keeping us smiling and, in spirit, still checking that everything is up to standard.

Meet Beth

Beth is our Director of Marketing, responsible for running our social media, managing the website, and supporting with accounts. She brings creativity and organisation to the team, helping to share our work with clients and the wider community.

Alongside her role in the business, Beth is also a full-time music teacher. During school holidays, she switches roles to become a valued sub-contractor, working hands-on with the team. As David’s daughter, she is proud to continue the family tradition of craftsmanship and to play an active role in the growth of the business.

Meet Nora

Nora may be the smallest member of the team, but she’s also one of the hardest workers. As our mini digger, she’s small but mighty — helping us lift, shift, and dig with precision and strength.

Since joining the family, Nora has made a huge difference on site, speeding up projects and making the heavy lifting look easy. We couldn’t imagine working without her!

“We have a beautiful 250 year, or thereabouts, old Yorkshire stone wall along our back garden boundary. It was leaning backwards in one corner and starting to crumble in a few places. Dave and Ian came to give us a quote last year to repair it. We had to wait a while as it’s been such a wet winter and spring, and they had a lot of work on. Dave contacted us on Wednesday and came over on Thursday to start the job. He tapped every square inch of mortar to check the state of it and decided it didn’t all need replacing, as it’s a real feature of the wall - it has shells and bits of stone in and it would’ve been a complete shame to lose it all. So he repointed the limestone where it needed repointing only.

The area at the top that was leaning backwards and crumbling had a massive root in it that had wedged way down between the two stone layers. He carefully removed all bits of the fibrous root, moving some of the heavy stones to do this. He then underpinned the part that was falling backwards, secured the two parts of the wall together and rebuilt and repointed it to look perfect. I could have watched him all day! He is so talented in what he does, a true artisan who knows his craft. And he was brilliant at dealing with my very grumpy neighbour to negotiate working on her side of the wall when needed.

Our wall is restored to full health! It will stand for another 250 years at least. It is, without a doubt, the focal point and feature of the garden. We are SO grateful. I cant recommend this company enough. THANK YOU Dave!! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟”

About Me

I’m David Edwards, owner of Northern Walls, and I’ve been working in rural crafts since 1999. As a Master Dry Stone Waller and landscaper, I take pride in combining traditional skills with a passion for creating lasting, beautiful outdoor spaces.

My career has included working for both the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority and the National Trust, where I spent 10 years as Senior Landscape Gardener at Fountains Abbey — a UNESCO World Heritage Site. These experiences have shaped my knowledge, skill, and dedication to craftsmanship, which I now bring to every project at Northern Walls.

Today, my focus is on helping clients bring their vision to life with honesty, care, and quality craftsmanship — ensuring every project is built to last.
